Partnering with Antenatal Navigators to Transform Health in Pregnancy (PATH)

The Project

The Project

Antenatal care commonly fails to meet the needs of low-income pregnant individuals, who are at increased risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes due to effects of racism, poverty, and inadequate attention to social determinants of health. Addressing the pervasive disparities in maternal and neonatal health requires innovative, sustainable, and more effective models of antenatal care delivery; one strategy may be patient navigation, a barrier-focused, longitudinal, patient-centered intervention that offers support for a defined set of health services. The Partnering with Antenatal Navigators to Transform Health in Pregnancy (PATH) proposal to evaluate a novel, comprehensive antenatal patient navigation program among low-income pregnant people has the potential to meaningfully improve maternal and neonatal health and reduce disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality.
