Who we are
The Yap Lab is part of the Department of Microbiology-Immunology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. The lab is located in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. We are a bacteriology lab broadly interested in understanding the role of accessory factors, antibiotics, and rRNA-modifying enzymes in regulating the efficiency and fidelity of mRNA translation. We use a multi-disciplinary approach that spans genetics, structural biology, omics technologies, biochemistry, and whole animal infection studies to investigate how these factors and small molecules affect ribosome function in methicilin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Our group members hail from different countries (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) with diverse perspectives, life experiences and identities. We are committed to maintain a safe, inclusive and equitable lab environment that celebrates diversity in all its forms. Learn more about DEIB in life sciences (a, b, c [incomplete list]).
