More than 460 undergraduate students were awarded grants to pursue unpaid internships in their career field of interest as part of Northwestern Career Advancement’s Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP). This year’s recipients represent the 12th—and largest—SIGP class since the program’s founding in 2007, when only 10 grants were awarded.
Last year, School of Communications junior Shannon Campbell had every college student’s dream summer. She jetted off to the Czech Republic where she had a prestigious internship in her desired field. Campbell spend two and a half months learning the ropes at the Prague Shakespeare Company. The only problem? The internship was unpaid.
So when she heard about Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA)’s Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP), “I had a lightbulb moment,” Campbell said. “I was like, ‘Okay, I want to do that.’”
Whether you’re graduating soon and looking for a full-time position or a sophomore or junior looking to gain some experience over the summer, you’ll find a variety of career opportunities at the annual Winter Internship & Job Fair this January, hosted by Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA).
Employers from Shedd Aquarium, Macy’s, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Colgate-Palmolive, and Deloitte, along with approximately 100 other companies in a wide range of industries, are expected to be in attendance over the two days, spanning marketing and education to non-profits and consulting. Each day will feature a different set of employers and a new opportunity for both undergraduate students and graduate students to make connections and take those first steps forward into the professional world.
