Unraveling the Governing Mechanisms Behind the Chiral Nematic Self-Assembly of Cellulose-Based Polymers

Thanks to their natural abundance, cholesteric liquid crystalline polymers based on cellulose are attractive materials for environmentally friendly colorimetric sensors. This perspective sheds new light on over forty years of polysaccharide research and provides a forward-looking view through additional understanding of driving forces for self-assembly.
