Apple’s Privacy Policy Re-Organization

In the News

Can companies create privacy policies that are easy to understand and transparent? In Apple’s new privacy pages are easier to read and look way better, Jay Peters at The Verge discusses new updates made to Apple’s privacy page. Peters details that the updates took the form of a complete re-organization of previously published information in an attempt to create a better user experience and understanding. Peters furthers that users can now use the streamlined privacy page to see the data policies of various apps in a more simplified user experience.

Our Take

Understanding an app or company’s privacy policy is crucial in using their services safely and with all the proper information about how your data is used. Apple’s efforts increase user accessibility in understanding the extent to which apps use and protect user data. This is a positive change for users as privacy statements can often be confusing to read or difficult to locate. By placing all of this information in one centralized and visually appealing location, Apple is taking charge of providing its customers with the information they need to use apps safely. Once Apple customers have easy access to this information, they can begin to make more educated choices on which apps to use and how much personal information they feel comfortable sharing with various apps. This is a big step in emphasizing transparency in data use.
