About

About the Exhibit

The Northwestern Community Ensemble (NCE) is a student choral group founded in the Black Christian music tradition. It was founded on May 8, 1971, to provide students a spiritual outlet, to sing Black sacred music, and to foster community.

Northwestern Community Ensemble: Black Sacred Music and the College Campus is an online exhibit that tells the origins of the choral group and concentrates on the first ten years of the organization. It includes oral history interview clips with the founders, early leaders, and student organization members. It also features archival documents from Northwestern University Archives, donations from alumni, Blackboard Magazine, the Daily Northwestern, and Syllabus Yearbook.
