At times the content we teach can trigger “hot moments” in our classrooms—emotionally tense or triggering interactions that interfere with the teaching and learning process. While it’s impossible to predict when and how these moments might arise in class, we can do our best to prepare for them by taking preventive measures such as monitoring the course climate and preparing students when teaching difficult content.
Whether you’re a TA or an instructor, during this workshop participants will learn how to identify and respond to microaggressions, proactively establish an inclusive classroom community, and manage potential hot moments without losing control of the class.
The Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching offers this free workshop.
