Niles West

The aim of this program is to connect graduate students and postdocs mentors to student mentees conducting independent research at Niles West High School. In the fall semester, volunteers will help their mentee prepare a detailed research proposal for a project on a topic of their choice. In the spring semester, volunteers will either provide remote help as their mentee carries out lab experiments at Niles West, or assist their mentee with virtual experiments.

MORE aims to maintain connections with ETHS this year through a variety of virtual programs. We hope to connect ETHS students with graduate student mentors to work on research projects and proposals as well as the college application process. We additionally plan to host graduate student seminars to provide ETHS students with a broader perspective of scientific research and techniques performed by Northwestern graduate students.

REACH

REACH

REACH is a science outreach group consisting of graduate students seeking to improve the image of scientists and inspire students to pursue STEM careers. The group holds virtual discussions with local high school students at different points throughout the school year. Panels of 3-4 graduate volunteers will present on topics such as STEM careers and education, their own research (on a level accessible to high school students), and applying to STEM programs. REACH is currently recruiting volunteers!
