Janan Hui, Co-Director
Janan grew up in Hong Kong and is a third-year graduate student in chemistry. His research involves sustainable manufacturing of printable conductive inks using bio-derived materials. Outside of lab, Janan enjoys cooking (especially the eating part), playing basketball, watching films, and is an avid video game nerd. He is also really passionate about songwriting and music production, hoping to one day release his own music.
Zach Trdinich, Co-Director
Zach is from Pittsburgh, PA, and attended Penn State University for his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. At NU, Zach is pursuing his PhD in Materials Science as a member of the Hersam research group, focusing on 2D materials. In his free time, he enjoys playing and watching disc golf and baseball.
Chelsea Greene, Niles West Coordinator
Chelsie earned her BS in Chemistry, accompanied by a minor in Mathematics, from Washington State University. Currently in her 4th year, Chelsie is a doctoral candidate within Northwestern’s Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on spin quantum bits for applications in quantum information science. Beyond academic pursuits, Chelsie enjoys volunteering, cooking vegetarian food, and spending time outdoors.
Meemie Hwang, Niles West Coordinator
Meemie is from Skokie, Illinois and received her BS in Chemistry from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She is a third year graduate student in organic chemistry and her research focuses on developing new photochemical methodologies. Meemie enjoys exploring cafes and bakeries as well as playing with her cat.
Aliki Valdes, Niles West Coordinator
Aliki received her BS in Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Western Washington University, and now is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the Microbiology-Immunology department at Feinberg. Her research focuses on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its mechanisms of disease. Outside of the lab, Aliki enjoys attending local music shows, practicing yoga, and embarking on a quest to find the best croissant in Chicago.
Conor Porter, ETHS Co-cordinator
Conor received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is a fourth year Mechanical Engineering PhD Student in the Advanced Manufacturing Processes Laboratory. His research focused on metal Additive Manufacturing. Outside the lab, he likes board games, camping, and making things.
Cale Severude, ETHS Coordinator
Cale received their BS in molecular biology along with minors in bioinformatics and music from Loyola University Chicago. They are a second-year PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Biological Sciences (IBiS) program studying the functions of cohesin and condensin in the early Drosophila embryo. Outside of the lab, Cale enjoys running, playing indie video games, and thrifting.
Ann Sinclair, ETHS Coordinator
Ann grew up in Pennsylvania, where she received degrees in Astronomy and Environmental Studies from Swarthmore College. Now a PhD student in Northwestern’s Earth and Planetary Sciences department, she is a member of the Climate Change Research Group and studies hazardous precipitation. When she isn’t busy being a student, Ann loves baking, swimming, and gardening.
Gayathri Subramanian, ETHS Co-cordinator
Gayathri Subramanian is from Chennai, India. She graduated from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, with an engineering degree in Biotechnology. She is in her fifth year of her PhD in Psychology at Northwestern University. She works in the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab with Dr. Ken Paller, and her primary area of research involves studying how the context in which we encode information plays a role in later retrieval and how sleep modulates the context-memory interaction. Her hobbies include dancing, drawing/painting, reading books and watching movies/TV shows.
Esmée Kuiper, REACH Coordinator
Originally from Michigan, Esmée now studies in Northwestern’s Earth and Planetary Sciences Department. Her research interests include karst, microbial ecology, and life that can survive in extreme environments. In her free time, Esmée enjoys running and writing. She is passionate about science communication and Lake Michigan.
Anurup Mohanty, REACH Coordinator
Anurup hails from Odisha, India, and grew up in various parts of the country. He is a PhD student in the Earth & Planetary Sciences department at Northwestern, focusing on astrobiology and life in extreme environments. Anurup enjoys hiking, sharing interesting information (and memes) through social media, and watching TV.
Thomas Subak, REACH Coordinator
Tommy is from Pennsylvania and is currently a 2nd year PhD student in the Earth & Planetary Sciences department. His research involves using physics to study rock deformation on both the micro and macro scale. In his free time Tommy enjoys playing watching movies, baseball, cooking, and playing board games.
