About Us

MORE provides opportunities for Northwestern graduate students and postdocs to mentor high school students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This mentorship takes a variety of forms, including one-on-one mentoring for independent research projects, group discussion panels on STEM careers and research, and one-on-one mentoring through the college application process. Mentorship primarily takes place through virtual communication, lowering the participation barrier for both volunteers and schools and allowing the organization to reach a wider slate of students. The variety of outreach activities also allows volunteers and schools to participate in mentorship at whatever level they are able.

The goal of MORE is to provide enriching mentorship experiences for high school students as well as graduate and postdoc researchers in STEM. A particular focus of the organization is providing mentorship to students that do not have access to similar mentorship opportunities, especially groups that are underrepresented in STEM fields. We hope to help young students develop a greater understanding of STEM career pathways, research project management, and the broad importance of STEM fields, and give an opportunity for volunteers to develop skills in mentorship and science communication while building connections to local communities.
