Project: NU- STAT 390- My Chi My Future

Project Synopsis:MCDC practicum students worked with community partner City of Chicago on the My Chi My Future project. This project aims to understand the youth opportunity landscape in the City of Chicago, specifically where gaps in programming exist for youth across age and interest. In this pursuit, students engaged in an in-depth exploration of the challenge, amalgamating data from diverse sources including the Chicago Metropolitan population data, Chicago Community Area Hardship index, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), and Chicago transportation data. By integrating these data with neighborhood-specific information, students identified existing inequities in available programs for youth. Driven by their insights, students created interactive dashboards, fostering the ability of stakeholders to visualize and conduct comprehensive analyses across various geographic clusters. In addition to this visual tool, our students delved into predictive modeling to anticipate the future count of programs using historical data. This undertaking not only facilitated the improvement of youth program accessibility across Chicago’s neighborhoods but also provided our stakeholders with an insightful prediction tool. The culmination of this senior data science project signifies not only technical accomplishment but also a tangible contribution toward enhancing community well-being and promoting equitable access to resources.
