Overview
Steady State Studies
Macrophages are heterogeneous cells whose function depends upon both their origin and microenvironment. Our goal is to characterize the different ocular macrophage subtypes, and understand how they maintain ocular homeostasis.
Laser CNV Model
Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is the pathological hallmark of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). In mice, we model nAMD using the laser-induced CNV model. Our goal is to identify pro-angiogenic macrophage subtypes, determine how they stimulate blood vessel growth, and develop therapeutics that target these cells.
Vldlr -/- Mouse Model
The Vldlr-/- mouse is a spontaneous model of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) that is dependent upon macrophages; however, the exact macrophage subtype has not been elucidated. Like the CNV model, our goal is to understand macrophage heterogeneity and the mechanism of macrophage-dependent angiogenesis.
