Soundscape Presentation by Verónica Dávila
This amateur, but experimental soundscape attempts to encompass what I consider latinidad sounds like. Latinidad is a tangle of diverse and often contradicting experiences and lived realities that make attempts at definition a tricky endeavor. Making latinidad sound, or constructing something like a sonic latinidad, proves to be just as challenging. Therefore, I want to offer a particular sonic experience of what latinidad is in the context of Chicago. Taking into account our speakers’ particular engagements with sound and my own experience of how Latinx Chicago sounds like, with this soundscape I attempt to situate the listeners in a variety of scenarios across time and space. In the end, I offer this soundscape for the listeners to imbue it, through their experience, with new meanings and significations.
