Chicago Women in STEM & Academia Initiative

NUPF would like to invite you to a special event that focuses on addressing inequalities facing women in STEM and academia, building a community to promote gender equity, and identifying solutions for the prioritization of work and lifestyle. This event is for everyone, students, postdocs, staff and faculty from Northwestern and other institutions whatever your gender identity is!

GWAN is seeking individuals interested in volunteering at this event. Volunteering duties include: working at the registration table and the GWAN information booth, escorting speakers, running microphones during panels and other duties. This is a wonderful networking opportunity as well as a great way to attend without paying the registration. 🙂

Chicago Holiday Party & Food Drive!

Join GWAN in celebrating the end of the quarter at our holiday party on the Chicago campus with lunch and many holiday treats! 

Additionally, our holiday party will double as a food drive. If you are able, please consider bringing a non-perishable food item to our event. All donations will be distributed to local soup kitchens in the Chicago area (see a list of most needed items on the RSVP form).

Women in Academia Career Panel

All are invited to GWAN’s Women in Academia Career Panel featuring female professors at different stages of their careers, from both the sciences and humanities. This event is hosted in collaboration with the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute and The Women’s Center at Northwestern University.

This panel will focus on two topics: (1) How to develop a successful academic career, especially in male-dominated fields, and (2) Available tools and resources successful women can use to achieve work-life balance. The first hour will be dedicated to a formal panel, and the second hour will be a casual mix and mingle over coffee and snacks.

We hope this panel will help break down some of the perceived and actual barriers that contribute to the attrition of graduate women (across all fields) from pursuing academic careers.

Current Panelists include: TGS Dean Teresa Woodruff, Emily Weiss (Chemistry), Neda Bagheri (Engineering), Ginger Pennington (Psychology), and others.
