In this lesson students will learn basics of SQL and use it to find objects of their choice from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) database. They will examine one or more of these objects in detail using images and other scientific data.
The SDSS contains photometric observations of around 500 million objects and spectra for more than 3 million objects, with a total data volume of about 116 TB. It is publicly available over the Internet.
