Find Graduate Study Opportunities in Germany or Internships at German Companies in the US or abroad!

The Department of German Career Week includes a series of panels and events for students in any field of study who are interested in learning more about how to find an internship at a German company either in the US or abroad, or how to apply and find scholarships for graduate school in Germany.

Postgraduate Internship and Teaching Scholarships in Germany and Austria

These two in-person panels will inform all undergraduates in any field, but especially juniors and seniors, about work-study fellowship programs after graduation. Student alumni from various programs will be in attendance to discuss their personal experiences.

The Benefits of Graduate School in Germany

Join Dr. Eva Bosbach and her colleague from the the University of Cologne, and  Sabrina Chala from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, who will discuss how NU students can apply for graduate school in Germany and what to expect once they’re there. Topics will include student visas, the various fields of study offered, and the programs‘ role in entrepreneurship.

American Friends of Alexander von Humboldt Panel

Join Jessica Hamilton, CFRE Vice President of Advancement of the AFAvH, who will discuss the foundations’ various sponsorship programs, fellowships, and awards. Three distinguished Northwestern scholars and fellowship recipients –  Professor Randall Snurr, Professor Erica Weitzman, and Professor Qi Zhu – will describe the application process and their experience as Humboldtians.

Northwestern- Hamburg Graduate Exchange Program

Northwestern and the University of Hamburg in Germany are engaged in an ongoing partnership to drive graduate student research collaborations and propel efforts to combat climate change with sustainable solutions. The program is open to graduate students in all fields of science and engineering with a demonstrated interest in sustainability, energy, or climate change.

Student Internship Alumni Panel

Are you interested in interning in Germany over the summer?  This panel of former interns will explore how they secured summer internships in Germany.  In addition, panelists will provide tips for adjusting to working in Germany.  Finally, options for funding your internship including the Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP) will be discussed.

Engineering the Future … in Germany!

 

Join Professor Matthew Grayson, who will discuss research and internship opportunities in Germany and the US. He will be joined by Oliver Pape from the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Matthias Neureiter from Cultural Vistas, who will  discuss their “Intern in Germany Program” (IGP), and Jacob Schoofs, who will discuss the Northwestern TUM (Technische Universität München) exchange program.

4:00 – 5:00pm: GACC-Midwest & German Subsidiaries Panel

For all undergraduates!  Local representatives from German companies in the USA will bring their market knowledge and discuss how to get a job at a German company here in the US, starting with internship opportunities. Companies include Siemens (industrial automation & health technology), Invest in Niedersachsen (investments & recruiting), Wagner Fire Safety(health services), and the Richard Wolf Medical Instruments Corp (medical devices).
