Goals of the Lab
The Gate Laboratory at Northwestern University, led by David Gate, PhD, is dedicated to elucidating the critical intersection between the immune system and neurodegenerative diseases, with a primary focus on disorders of aging such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Employing advanced multi-omics approaches, including: single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and cytometry, the lab seeks to uncover immune system alterations in neurodegeneration. By analyzing human brain specimens and responses to emerging therapies, the ultimate goals are to identify novel biomarkers, reveal new therapeutic targets, and enhance treatment strategies to improve outcomes for patients affected by these devastating conditions.
