Northwestern University Libraries hosted Evanston Township High School teacher Aaron Becker and 35 of his World History and Social Studies students for a kickoff event. Students met with Erik Ponder and received course instruction and a detailed outline of the collaborative interactive educational project. In addition to the course instruction, the students screened the Academy award winning film Tsotsi, followed by a lively group discussion. They were also provided with a tour of the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies, where they were introduced to South African periodicals, pictorials on the city of Johannesburg, African language dictionaries and study guides, and contemporary South African novels.
