Group Events

“One of the best events was the Water Balloon Fight. When everyone gathered in the courtyard, we knew it had to be a girls vs. boys fight. The balloons were put in the middle and I gathered my two balloons. When the RA said we could begin, it was a free for all. I waited until one of the guys was restocking on balloons to pelter him in the back. We ran out of balloons fairly quickly and everyone decided we should take the rest and fill them up in the downstairs bathroom. Little did we know, we would end up flooding the bathroom. Luckily, it wasn’t too bad and we ran away hoping no one would come in and slip. We headed back outside and had the second battle, of which the girls dominated. The guys had no chance of winning; if you took one look at their shirts, it was obvious that they lost. However, we all had an amazing time.” –Katherine K., Summer ’23 CPP

“Session One of the 2023 summer CPP program brought us a group of 20 students from Indonesia, some having travelled to the United States for the first time. During this experience, the students got to connect with Dr. Jeffrey Winters from the Northwestern Department of Political Science, who’s regional passion area and research experience included Indonesian politics and culture. Throughout the time Dr. Winters spent with our students, he discussed the differences in educational and political systems within the United States and Indonesia, and the opportunities these students could find through studying internationally for their college careers. Their time was scheduled to last only an hour, but given the rich conversations that were occurring, Dr. Winters stayed and discussed with these students for over two hours, including time to go to the dining hall with the group. Dr. Winters’s dedication to these students and their interest in learning was truly an incredible showcase of the faculty connection CPP has to offer!” –Austin K., Summer ’23 CPP Staff

“My favorite group event was getting breakfast with everyone in the mornings. Though everyone had their own cliques, a group of about 20 people would meet up every morning to walk down to the dining hall together. It was a fun way to get to know people outside of class and bond over our love for the Allison Hall zucchini bread.” –Alex H., Summer ’23 CPP

“I got to ride the subway for the first time!” –Nicole, Summer ’23 CPP
