“I feel more prepared for the admissions process because during my Seminar I was able to get guidance for my admissions essay. Before the class I was unsure of what I was supposed to write about or if they was a specific guideline I was supposed to follow. However during this class, I was able to begin my writing process and receive feedback from my professor which was definitely reassuring. Knowing that I received feedback and used skills taught by a college professor made me much more confident in the admissions process and in my essay.” –Saliha A., Summer ’23 CPP
“I feel 100% more ready for the college admissions process after attending multiple Get Ready Series (sessions). I’m very interested in applying to Northwestern, and the overview of campus life was highly informative. I had no idea that Northwestern has a frisbee team that constantly travels out of state! That was very funny to me. The most memorable moment was in the second Get Ready Series. The speaker URGED us to write the supplemental essays, and to again, focus on one aspect of Northwestern that has really shaped you. I loved getting to hear about what the admission team likes to see! Another fun fact I learned: they spend about 8 minutes on each application, and when they spend more time, it’s either for a very good OR bad reason!” –Holly N., Summer ’23 CPP
“The Get Ready Series was one of the most useful aspects of the entire program. I felt anxious about the entire admission process beforehand, with limited knowledge of specific aspects. After the Series, I felt more prepared than ever to tackle this upcoming college applications season.” –Faris D., Summer ’23 CPP
“The Get Ready series was a very helpful part of the CPP program for me. I loved the opportunity to talk with real Northwestern admissions reps and get to know the admissions process from both sides. My favorite experience was learning more about the interview process. The admissions rep talked to us about how it could really help to sit down and talk to a real Northwestern alum and even had us pair up and ask each other potential interview questions so we could get a feel for what a real interview would be like.” –William B., Summer ’23 CPP
“I am extremely grateful that the Get Ready Series was included in the programming. As the first student in my family to pursue a four-year degree at a university in the United States, it was helpful to have a reliable source of information on college admissions via the Get Ready Series’ speakers. The most valuable piece of advice that I received from the Get Ready Series was that Northwestern University is not looking for a particular type of student. They see art, STEM, and humanities on an equal plane, which was something I did not know about Northwestern. I would say the Get Ready Series is a good way for students to learn not only about general college admissions processes like essays, grades, and test scores, but also about Northwestern and what it can offer, as well as important advice for how to get in.” –Ayan P., Summer ’23 CPP
“I learned how to set a “S.M.A.R.T” goal during my online CPP course. It’s very helpful because it gives me insights on the goals that I am currently working on.” –Dian Y., Summer ’23 CPP
“Our first year being back in person was challenging yet inspiring! Being around these exceptional students has reminded me of why it is so important to pour into the youth and expose them o so many different cultures, levels of academia, and most importantly, perspectives.
Although I like to amp up the fun, one of my favorite programs this summer was an RA program that was a part of our Get Ready Series. In this specific program, the RAs had a chance to lead the workshops instead of our campus partners. I had the opportunity to lead our “College Essay” workshop and it was outstanding! I didn’t think the majority of the students would come but we ended up with about 22 participants. We listened to one of our esteemed professors break down the components of what makes a great essay and we also got a chance to critique and look at some examples from our students. At the end, we also offered students to send us essays so that we can continue to offer help beyond the program. I was able to connect with one student in particular and we spent a couple of hours on her essay. I haven’t felt as impactful as I did in that moment in my job roles since before the pandemic. Being here this summer has truly re-ignited the passion I have for education and working with students!” –Kyler H., Summer ’23 CPP
