Field Trips

“I loved the field trips to the planetarium and observing objects in space using the telescope in Dearborn observatory.” –Summer ’23 CPP Student

“I had always been so interested in Northwestern Medicine and I finally got the chance to visit their medical school on the Chicago campus. We woke up bright and early to catch the bus and made our way downtown. When we arrived, everyone was split into two groups: one went to the in-patient simulation and the other went to out-patient simulation. I started in out-patient care by listening to different heart rhythms and heart diseases. There was such a specific pattern to each disease’s heartbeat and I found that so intriguing. My favorite part of out-patient simulation was getting to interact with the patient actors. Getting real-time feedback on how your patient interaction skills were was a great learning experience and the patient actors were so wonderful. Down in the in-patient simulation, I got to witness medical students performing practice surgeries. All of the intricate detail that goes into being able to perform a surgery is fascinating and something I strive to do. I ended the day with CPR and groups of students got to go up to the front and react as if they were in a real emergency situation. From this trip, I learned so much from current medical students and I see myself at Northwestern Medicine in the future.” –Katherine K., Summer ’23 CPP

“Our class field trip was to Skokie’s Holocaust museum. Despite being Jewish, I had never been to one before, and it was truly life changing. It kept me thinking for hours, and it was a truly life changing experience.” –Noah K., Summer ’23 CPP

“The field trip to the Holocaust Museum was great, as it gave me a better understanding of how fascism can ruin a good government system and become devastating to a group.” –Summer ’23 CPP Student

“When I was at Northwestern, my program was called “So You Want to be a Doctor?” and on our field trip, we went to Northwestern’s downtown campus, Feinberg School of Medicine. It was such an amazing experience because we did a series of simulations and practices such as CPR, doctor-patient roleplay, how to determine blood pressure, etc. The opportunity to explore Northwestern’s Medical School emphasized my passion for pursuing a career in medicine and truly provided a glimpse of what being a physician looks like.” –Vivian A., Summer ’23 CPP
