Gnocchi

Gnocchi is the varied family of dumpling in Italian cuisine. You can do it from scratch, or just buy  pre-cooked gnocchi. Here is how I prepare the gnocchi.  Easy and delicious dish.

Ingredients

For the gnocchi

  • 2 cups of Water
  • 1 package of pre-cooked Gnocchi (ideally: Bartenura, 16oz)
  • 2 teaspoons of Olive Oil
  • 1 pinch of Salt
  • PAM spray oil

For the sauce

  • 5 or 6 Roma Tomatoes, washed and diced
  • 2 or 3 Fresh Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 1 Red Pepper, washed and diced
  • 1/2 cup of Basil, washed and chopped
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce (ideally: Barilla sauce, original)
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of Cumin

Tools

  • 1 plastic bowl
  • 1 medium pot with lid
  • 1 colander
  • 1 medium frying pan
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 medium pot
  • 1 knife
  • 1 cup

 

Steps to prepare the dish

First step: Preparing the gnocchi

  1. Bring the water, the olive oil and the salt to boil over medium fire
  2. While it is boiling add carefully the content of the whole package of gnocchi
  3. The gnocchi will be ready, when you see all of them floating to the surface
  4. Use the colander to drain the gnocchi.
  5. Spray the pot with PAM oil, and add the gnocchi back to the pot
  6. Spray a little of the oil over the gnocchi, and stir the gnocchi with the oil
  7. Cover the pot, and leave it to cool off at room temperature.

Second step (serve):

1. Pour the sauce on the gnocchi and toss it

3. Serve and boun appetito! (Bon appetite in Italian)

 

Notes

  • You can also add parmesan cheese before you serve the dish.
  • You can leave out the basil
