Northwestern University is pleased to announce that Claudia Quevedo-Webb, Ph.D. and Juan Godoy, Ph.D. will together deliver the keynote presentation at the 2023 Chicago Language Symposium:

“The Role of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Language Curriculum”

Presenter Biographies

Photograph of Juan A. Godoy PeñasJuan A. Godoy Peñas is an Assistant Professor Educator in Spanish at the University of Cincinnati, and Coordinator of the Spanish Intermediate Program. He is as well the Co-Director of the Curricular Enhancement, Development, Access and Research Language Resource Center, funded by a Title VI Grant from the Department of Education.

Previously, he has worked as Teaching Assistant at Harvard University and Visiting Instructor at Qingdao University, China. His research interests mainly focus on identity, memory, trauma and curriculum development with a focus on social justice. He is the autor of the book Memoria, identidad y literatura del yo: narrativas de la segunda generación de escritores exiliados por la Guerra Civil española, and have published several articles. Along with Dr. Claudia Quevedo-Webb, he is the Co-Director of the project “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Second Language Teaching” (DEI-SLT), an open educational resource website that offers support to educators who want to bridge language teaching and social justice.

Photo of Claudia Quevedo-Webb, Ph.D. Claudia Quevedo-Webb, Ph.D. Assistant Instructional Professor in Spanish at the University of Chicago.  Claudia holds a BA and MA in Spanish Language and Literatures and a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics (Complutense University of Madrid). Before starting as an Assistant Instructional Professor in Spanish at University of Chicago in 2020, she started her career as a Second Language Instructor and TA at Harvard University. Along with Dr. Juan Godoy-Peñas, she is the co-director of DEI-SLT, an open educational resource website that offers support to educators who want to bridge language teaching and social justice. She is also the co-director of the virtual reality in Spanish and Portuguese project at University of Chicago.
