Dinakar Sagapuram, Texas A&M University

Koushik Visanathan, Purdue University

Srinivasan Chandrasekar, Purdue University

This mini-symposium will bring together material scientists, mechanicians, industrial and mechanical engineers to discuss recent advances in mechanics of advanced manufacturing processes. Topics of interest include the following: – Innovative experimental methods, including in situ approaches, for characterizing deformation mechanics and friction at multiple length-scales – Advances in modeling (analytical/numerical) large strain plastic deformation and microstructure effects (e.g., crystal plasticity) in material removal, deformation processing and tribology – Improved understanding of flow instabilities and localization (e.g., shear bands, fracture, surface buckling) in cutting and deformation processing of engineering materials – Chemo-mechanical effects in plastic deformation of metals – Applications of novel methods for improving surface quality and microstructure design in manufacturing processes

Keywords: manufacture, fundamentals of solids
