The Project
Navigating New Motherhood 2 (NNM2) is a postpartum patient navigation program geared towards improving health outcomes among low-income individuals. In 2016, the Yee Lab conducted a pilot study, Navigating New Motherhood, with a small cohort of postpartum individuals and achieved great success. We now have been awarded the opportunity to design a randomized controlled trial utilizing an enhanced model of this previous study, called Navigating New Motherhood 2.
In our program, approximately 400 pregnant and postpartum individuals will be randomized to receive either usual care or patient navigation during the postpartum period. NNM2 provides one-on-one navigation services based on individual needs through one year postpartum. Navigating New Motherhood provides an innovative approach to address the suboptimal postpartum care in the United States. The NNM2 program is grounded in understanding and addressing social determinants of health in order to promote self-efficacy, enhance access, and sustain long-term engagement. We aim to redefine the care experience for postpartum individuals and plan for future programs.
