Welcome to iWOE 24

The International Workshop on Oxide Electronics (iWOE) is the premier meeting focused on recent advances and emerging trends in the field of multifunctional complex oxides and their utilization in electronic devices. The 24th annual meeting will address interdisciplinary topics including neuromorphic computation; ionic and electrochemical modification of electronic materials; nonequilibrium states and optical control; and oxide integration into energy and logic platforms.

New Junior Research Award and Poster Prize Information

 

 

 

 

 

The Oxide Electronics Prize for Excellency in Research

The inaugural prize will be given at the iWOE-24 Meeting to at most 3 candidates demonstrating excellence in research in the field of oxide electronics. Winners will receive a $500 cash prize, certificate, and book. The winners’ names and citations will be published on the WOE homepage.

Deadline: Nomination packages due by email on or before 8 September 2017.

Requirements

  • Potential awardees must be under 40 years of age at the time of the start of the WOE meeting and the candidate’s nominator must be over 40 years of age.
  • Nomination packages consist of each candidate’s CV (including birth date), full publication list, and a proposed citation of no more than 50 words. The nominator should provide a summary of the achievements upon which the nomination is based on no more than 150 words. Nominators should avoid avoiding superfluous descriptors and may only nominate one individual.
  • The CV, publication list, and citation should be combined into a single PDF file named “17-{Surname of Nominee}_{Surname of Nominator}-OE_Prize.pdf” and submitted by the nominator via email to Prof. J.-M. Triscone at Jean-Marc.Triscone@unige.ch.

Process

All nomination packages are reviewed by the WOE Prize Committee, which is composed of a chairperson and two more members that are designated among the international committee members present. The 2017 Prize Committee Members include

  • Prof. Daniele Marre

Winner(s) will be announced during the closing remarks of the WOE Meeting (27 September 2017) and are not required to be present to receive the award.

 

Poster Session Prizes

Each poster session will have a single first-place winner and 2 runner-up winners. All awardees will receive a cash prize and certificate. Winners will be announced during the closing remarks of the WOE Meeting (27 September 2017) and are not required to be present to receive the award.

What is included in the registration fee?

Welcome Reception (Sunday, September 24, 2017)

Participants who arrive Sunday afternoon are invited to attend a welcome reception from 4:30pm to 7:00pm at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University in the Ryan Atrium. It is located 3 blocks from the W Hotel – Lakeshore. Light d’oeuvres, wine, and local Chicago beer will be served.

You may collect your registration material at the reception and meet colleagues to go for dinner in the city. The location of the Welcome Reception is

Conference Banquet (Tuesday September 26, 2017)

Dinner will take place aboard The Spirit of Chicago at Navy Pier at 6:30pm and sets sail at 7:00pm. See the map on the right for its approximate location along the pier.   • It can be cold in the evening in September in Chicago and weather changes quickly. Please dress appropriately.

Refund Policy

Partial refunds will be will be considered up to a week prior to the event by the organizers at their discretion as follows:

  • 50% refund on paid registration if cancelled before August 29, 2017
  • 10% refund on paid registration if cancelled between August 30 and September 16, 2017
  • 0% refund on paid registration if cancelled after September 16, 2017

Please use the above link to book a room at the hotel with the discounted group rate. We strongly recommend you book accommodations at the W Hotel Lakeshore rather than a nearby hotel. The main presentations will be held on the 33rd Floor in the Altitude Room (see right) with coffee and snacks available in the adjacent Skyline room. Posters will be held on the 6th floor.

The hotel is ideally located just steps away from Lake Michigan and is easily accessible by train or taxi from the airport. Directions to the W Hotel and Parking Options

The organizers recommend taking a taxi from the airport or a train. Rental cars are not necessary unless you plan to travel outside of the city of Chicago. From O’Hare international, the taxi fare will be approximately $40 + tip and should take about 35 minutes. From Midway International, the taxi fare should be approximately $30 + tip and take 20-30 minutes. Taxi lines can be found on the arrivals level at both airports. Both airports also permit rideshares (Uber, Lyft, etc.) and those can be used to reach the W Hotel. When you arrive check the pickup point carefully as they rideshares typically pick up passengers on a different level than the standard taxis.

General Directions to the Hotel (by Train)

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)’s train system is known as the ‘L’ (a now-official name originally short for “elevated”) and can be used to travel from Chicago Airports (Midway or O’Hare) to the W Hotel – Lakeshore location (644 N. Lake Shore Drive).

From O’Hare: Take the Blue Line (towards Forest Park) 17 stops about 40 minutes to the Washington stop. From here you may walk to the hotel, take a taxi, or walk to Lake Street and take a Red Line (towards Howard) train 2 stops to the Chicago stop and walk the remainder of the way.

From Midway: Take the Orange Line (towards Loop) 13 stops about 30 minutes to the State/Lake stop. From here you may walk to the hotel (approximately 1 mile) or take a taxi.

General Directions to the Hotel (by Car)

  • Take Interstate 290 East into Downtown Chicago.
  • Turn left onto Michigan Avenue, continue to Ohio Street.
  • Turn right onto Ohio Street (east), continue one block to Lakeshore Drive.

  • The hotel is one block down on the corner.
From South
  • Take Interstate 90 North, exit Ohio Street east.
  • Continue on Ohio Street to Lake Shore Drive.
  • Turn left onto Lake Shore Drive, continue one block to Ontario Street.

From North
  • Take Interstate 94 East (Kennedy Expressway), exit Ohio Street East.
