Meet Alex Willis ’17 – chemist, business analyst, and baker

Alex Willis

Alex Willis graduated in 2017 with a master’s degree in chemistry. After graduation, Willis pursued a career in business analytics and strategy, but he also rekindled his passion for food creation. Ultimately, he appeared on the fifth season of ABC’s The Great American Baking Show.

Since his TV appearance, Willis hosted a live, virtual baking demonstration with the Alumni Association and the Graduate School. During this demonstration, Willis turned purple sweet potatoes into purple milk bread. Access the recipe for the purple sweet potato milk bread here.

Willis plans to start or operate a bakery, embodying the essence of a liberal arts education.

“It’s important to realize that you should be a multifaceted person and pursue your interests, even if it’s just as a hobby,” says Alex Willis. “That doesn’t make it any less important or less valuable.”
