Student at the Bus Stop | Miguelangel Garcia

I was born in Harvey, IL, and raised by immigrant parents who came to the U.S. from Mexico chasing the dream. I am currently serving a 95 year sentence at Stateville C.C. I am also a Northwestern student majoring in Social Science. I like to draw and paint and am self taught. I prefer realism in pencil but have been learning all media.

The concept of my painting “Student at the Bus Stop” is how do I see myself, and I first thought of being a student at Northwestern, and how it felt on that first day of Philosophy with Professor Jennifer Lackey. I had that first day of school jitters, fearful and nervous but excited to learn, and tried to convey these feelings through my art.
