Still Dreaming

I was born and raised in Chicago by parents that migrated from Mexico in pursuit of the “American Dream.” I am a Northwestern undergrad student majoring in Social Science serving a 45 year sentence at Stateville C.C. Hard work and dedication was instilled by my parents at a young age, and no matter what I encounter I always pursue it in that manner.
My ancestry sparks my creativity and passion for Chicano/a arte. My piece represents not only my culture, but what happens behind the walls of a lonely dark place. Being in prison can feel like being dead and helpless even if you are surrounded by many great people. Being enrolled in NPEP has given me a new perspective on life and how beauty can come from the loneliest, darkest places inhabited by many productive intelligent individuals. Education will stop my time from dripping away.
