Griffin Rupp

Senior

 

Griffin Rupp is an incoming freshman who is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Trombone Performance at Northwestern University.  Griffin started playing trombone in sixth grade and immediately began taking private lessons with Edward Avila, the second trombone of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. Griffin studied with Mr. Avila until his sophomore year in high school. During that time, he continuously tested himself by attending and performing at music competitions, institutes, and camps. Griffin also held the principal trombone position with the Corpus Christi Youth Orchestra for three seasons. During his sophomore year of high school, Griffin applied to attend the summer Trombone Institute at Interlochen Arts Camp. His audition was well received and in addition to being accepted to the institute, Griffin was recruited by Tom Riccobono to join his studio and attend the Interlochen boarding school for his junior and senior years. At Interlochen Arts Academy, Griffin pursued a rigorous musical education and performed in the orchestra, wind ensemble, brass ensemble, and various chamber music ensembles.  Griffin performed with the Academy Orchestra on NPR’s “From the Top ” and subbed for the Traverse Symphony Orchestra for a rehearsal consisting of all Wagner. During the summers, Griffin has been a part of the Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.  Griffin has attended masterclasses with Richard White, Randall Hawes, Mark Lusk, Gerry Pagano, John Marcellus, Gene Pokorny, David Jackson, Richard Stout, Hana Beloglavec, Christian Griego, Demondrae Thurman, Toby Oft, Michael Powell, James T. Decker, Nathaniel O. Brickens, Charles R. Hurt, Rai Morales, and James Markey.
