Adam Uliassi

Sophomore

Adam is an incoming freshman studying trombone performance. A Phoenix, Arizona native, he started playing the trombone at ten years old, with an emphasis on baseball. At thirteen he traded slides into home plate for trombone slides as that’s when he began serious studies with Dr. Brad Edwards. Adam won the 2022 Phoenix Brass Collective Young Artists Competition and will be soloing with them in 2023. He was principal trombone of the Arizona Central Region Orchestra as well as the Arizona All-State Orchestra. A semi-finalist in the 2021 Southeast Trombone Symposium Youth Competition, he did not compete due to pandemic restrictions. Adam played first trombone in the 2020 Honor Band of America in Indianapolis, Indiana. As Principal Trombone of the Phoenix Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO) for the last two seasons, he also played in the pit orchestra for the School of Ballet Arizona’s productions of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. In High School Adam played in band, orchestra and jazz band. He also sang in several choirs and became the first Arizona School for the Arts student to conduct the pit orchestra for their school musical. Adam attended Kinhaven Music School in Vermont for the last three summers. Although no longer a frequent baseball player, Adam still plays squash regularly.
