Kevin Hannequin

Kevin Hannequin is a trombonist from Bethel, Connecticut who is a second year Master’s student studying at Northwestern University, where he studies with Michael Mulcahy, Doug Wright, Timothy Higgins, Randy Hawes, and Christopher Davis.

In 2018, Kevin received his Bachelor’s Degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Trombone Performance and Biological Sciences. At Carnegie Mellon, he studied with Peter Sullivan, the Principal Trombonist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Kevin has performed as a soloist and ensemble member with several of the Northwestern University and Carnegie Mellon University orchestras and wind ensembles. In 2017, Kevin and his twin brother, Matthew, co-won the Carnegie Mellon University Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition, where they performed Herbert L. Clarke’s “Cousins”, a feature for trombone and trumpet, with the Carnegie Mellon Wind Ensemble, under the direction of George Vosburgh. His undergraduate brass quintet, Steel City Brass, received finalist and honorable mention awards in the Pittsburgh Concert Society and Silberman Chamber Competitions. Kevin has also played with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra on multiple occasions, including the unique opportunity of performing under the baton of Joseph Alessi in his conducting debut. In addition, Kevin was accepted into the 2014 NAFME All-Nationals Symphonic Wind Ensemble.   

Most recently, Kevin participated in the 2019 Southeast Trombone Symposium in Columbus, Georgia, where he was a finalist in the S.E. Shires Solo Competition, performing the Derek Bourgeois Trombone Concerto.

A big fan of jazz and commercial playing, Kevin has played in several big bands and musical theaters, including productions of The Wizard of Oz, Young Frankenstein, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Pajama Game, and Beauty and the Beast with various theater companies and organizations.

When he is not playing the trombone, Kevin enjoys composing for video games, eating, lifting, playing sports, and speed-running Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest and Superman 64.
