The Workshop in Transnational Cultural History is concerned with the theory and practice of literary and cultural study outside of national models, and with the changing historical circumstances under which a globalized culture has been produced, consumed, and circulated, especially in the recent past.
Our members convene three or more times per quarter for reading groups, discussions of works-in-progress by faculty and graduate students, invited speakers, and the occasional conference or colloquium.
Our topics and agenda are most responsive to the active participants in the group. The workshop is made possible by generous support from the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, and in particular the Department of English and the Program in Comparative Literary Studies. However, our primary concern in the workshop is the transnational methods in humanistic inquiry that have often lacked a stable curricular home within the language and literature departments (and affiliated disciplines) as they have traditionally been configured.
