The Telemobility University Transportation Center (UTC), a partnership of Northwestern, UC Berkeley, and UT Austin, is pleased to announce the first in a new series of Telemobility Virtual Roundtables (TVR) aimed at understanding the supply side of tele-activities and e-processes and their impact on the demand for travel and mobility.

Featured Panelists:

  • Brian Bourke is currently Chief Growth Officer at SEKO Logistics, a global freight forwarder and 3PL headquartered just outside of Chicago with branches in over 40 countries. Speaking six languages, he has helped in developing supply chain solutions for SEKO clients and has implemented a number of global growth strategies at SEKO. He is responsible for the acceleration of SEKO’s organic growth, and is driving SEKO’s demand generation, revenue management and corporate marketing and communications initiatives. Mr. Bourke began his career with SEKO in 2005 after receiving his BA in Economics from the University of Wisconsin. He was head of Marketing Communications for Geodis Wilson prior to returning to SEKO.
  • Sunil Chopra is Deputy Dean and the IBM Distinguished Professor of Operations Management at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He was also Interim Dean from 2009-2010. From 2006 – 2009, he served as Senior Associate Dean: Curriculum and Teaching. He became a faculty member of the school in 1989. Previously he was an Assistant Professor at the Stern School of Business Administration at New York University. He has a PhD in Operations Research from SUNY Stony Brook.
  • Hani Mahmassani, Telemobility UTC Executive Director, Director of the Northwestern University Transportation Center, and the William A. Patterson Distinguished Chair in Transportation at Northwestern University, will moderate this asynchronous virtual roundtable. Dr. Mahmassani brings over 35 years of research, academic and professional experience in transportation systems analysis, travel behavior, network modeling and logistics systems.
  • Susan M. Sweat is VP, Operations Planning & Engineering at the FedEx Express World Headquarters in Memphis, TN, where she has been responsible for the planning of Domestic PUD and Hub Operations since June 2015. She previously held VP roles in Customer Experience and Compliance, as well as Pickup and Delivery Operations, and is a five-time recipient of the FedEx Five Star Award, the company’s highest employee achievement award. Susan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from University of Louisville and an MBA from Dowling College. She currently serves on the Executive Council of FedExFamilyHouse, a home away from home for out-of-town families receiving treatment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, is a member of IAWA (International Aviation Women’s Association) and Co-Chairs the Express Women’s Network and the Asia Network.
  • Nate Weir is an eCommerce and API Strategy Senior Manager at UPS. During his more than six years with the company, Nate has worked on a wide range of impactful projects including the relaunch of the customer facing UPS My Choice Platform, working to create UPS’s eCommerce strategy in the Asia Pacific region, working with the World Bank’s venture arm IFC on potential investment projects in South America, and the first pilot of personal vehicle deliveries at UPS.

Featured Panelists:

  • Stacy Beardsley is the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction at Evanston/Skokie School District 65 in Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Beardsley is responsible for the leadership and implementation of district curricula and supports. In addition, she will establish professional learning opportunities for teachers and staff that promote high-quality instruction and implementation of district curricula. Dr. Beardsley’s work will have three primary areas of focus: professional learning, literacy, and technology.
  • Sana Jafri is the Executive Director of the Chicago Learning Exchange (CLX) in Chicago, Illinois.  Sana has been with CLX for over six years and during this time, her accomplishments include creating the City of Chicago’s first festival for experiential learning entitled Remake Learning Days Chi, developing organizational-wide strategy, securing new funders, launching the City of Chicago’s first digital media and technology landscape scan, as well as generating a communications strategy for local and national outlets.
  • Hani Mahmassani, Telemobility UTC Executive Director, Director of the Northwestern University Transportation Center, and the William A. Patterson Distinguished Chair in Transportation at Northwestern University, will lead the Q&A portion of this TVR. Dr. Mahmassani brings over 35 years of research, academic and professional experience in transportation systems analysis, travel behavior, network modeling and logistics systems. 
  • Terri Sabol is an Assistant Professor of Human Development and Social Policy at the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) and Faculty Fellow at the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University. As a developmental psychologist, her research focuses on the individual and environmental factors that lead to healthy child development, with a particular emphasis on schools and families. In particular, she applies the science of child development to the design and study of child and family policies. She is also a former Chicago Public School teacher.
  • Shirin Vossoughi is Assistant Professor of Learning Sciences at the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the Learning Sciences faculty at Northwestern University in 2014, Vossoughi was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University and the Exploratorium, where she led an ethnographic study of after-school programs that blend scientific inquiry, literacy and the arts. More broadly, she draws on a range of interpretive methods to study the social, historical, political and ethical dimensions of learning.

  • Doug Hine is Vice President, eCommerce & Integrated Payments Strategy at Elavon.   • Joan King is Senior Vice President, eCommerce and International at Crate and Barrel. She is responsible for the development and implementation of eCommerce strategy, digital experience and operations, with full responsibility for the channel. She directly leads the digital customer experience, product management, SEO, design, site merchandising and digital strategy teams. Her team is responsible for delivering a seamless and inspirational digital experience across Crate and Barrel’s brands on all devices, apps and in-store solutions. Dr. Mahmassani brings over 35 years of research, academic and professional experience in transportation systems analysis, travel behavior, network modeling and logistics systems.
  • Raj Narayanaswamy is General Manager of Operations at Wayfair. Raj is a multifaceted leader with experience in retail strategy, operations, analytics and technology with special focus on e-commerce. He leads the North American Network Management team that is responsible for the operations strategy for the entire network from source to home. His team develops the operations forecast, and the governance for the entire network for inbound, outbound flows in the first, middle and last mile that enable the supplier experience and the customer promise. He is a former management consultant with operations strategy expertise in grocery, apparel, pharmacy, general merchandise, consumer goods and electronics.
  • Dave Spear is a Senior Industry Consulting Leader for the Retail/CPG vertical at Teradata. Dave continually finds himself at the intersection of brand, consumer and digital, which typically necessitates some level of digital transformation work. He and another colleague have a portfolio of 100+ clients across the Americas. Dave graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned his MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and has 4 boys.

  • Richard Monopoli is Vice President-Development at Boston Properties, Inc. At BXP, Rich has led land acquisitions/dispositions, complex deal structure, and discretionary entitlement processes in the two largest BXP regions. He’s negotiated over a million square feet of anchor tenant leases, kicking off over three million square feet of new office, mixed-use and life science development.
  • Susan Shaheen is professor In-residence in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. Susan is a pioneer in future mobility strategies. She was among the first to observe, research, and write about changing dynamics in shared mobility and the likely scenarios through which automated vehicles will gain prominence. She is an internationally recognized expert in mobility and the sharing economy. She co-directs the Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC) of the Institute of Transportation Studies – Berkeley.
