Will received their BA in Sociology from the University of British Columbia and an MSW in Social System Design from Washington University in St. Louis. They are currently pursuing a PhD in Social Sciences and Health at Northwestern University. Before graduate school, he worked as a design research consultant for tech companies, focusing on AI safety, bias in big data, and algorithmic fairness. At the THL lab, they are working with the Youth Advisory Council, leading a participatory study aimed at preparing queer teens to become AI designers so that they can create a queer-centric AI health tool that respects their needs and intersectional identities. His research is driven by the goal of centering the voices and holistic health goals of queer teens to create more equitable AI tools. Outside of their academic work, they enjoy hiking, dancing at music festivals, and cooking!
