How to Create a Google Account for your Northwestern Email
- Go to the Google Account Sign In page
- Click Create account
- Select the for my personal use option
- Enter your name
- Enter your Birth Date and Gender
- Click use your existing email
- Enter your Northwestern email address.
- Verify your email address with the code sent to your existing email
- Create your password
- Review your account information. You will sign in your Google Account using only your Northwestern email address
- Read and Agree to the Privacy and Terms
You now have successfully create a Google Account! You can now use Google Workspace to work on Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and see those files on your Google Drive.
*Note: You DID NOT create a Gmail account. You will still need to log in to Outlook to access your Northwestern email inbox. If you do not have a Northwestern email address, you can create a new Google Account with email.

How to sign in to the Chrome Browser Application
- Open the Chrome browser
- At the top right, click on Profile
- Click Turn on sync…
- Sign in to your Google Account
- Click Yes, I’m in.
You successfully signed in to Chrome. You can now create bookmarks, manage passwords, check your history, and have everything you do sync so you can continue your browsing to other devices that you sign into.

By syncing your Google account across devices, you guarantee access to your emails, contacts, calendars, and other important information no matter your location or the device you are using.
Sync everything vs manage what you sync
Sync everything saves all your profile information to your Google Account across all devices where you’re signed in to Chrome. This includes bookmarks, history, passwords, extensions, settings, open tabs, themes, and more.
Managing what you sync allows you to selectively choose which types of data you want to save across your devices. It is useful if you prefer to have different settings or data on different devices
To access these settings:
- Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the upper-right corner.
- Go to Settings.
- Under You and Google, click on Sync and Google services.
- Choose between Sync everything or Manage what you sync.

- Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the upper-right corner.
- Go to Settings.
- Under You and Google, click on Sync and Google services.
- Choose between Sync everything or Customize sync
- If you chose Sync everything, your bookmarks will be synced.
- If you chose Customize sync, toggle the Bookmarks option
Bookmarks bar
- To turn the bookmarks bar on or off, select More > Bookmarks and lists > Show bookmarks bar.
- Can’t find your bookmark? use the address bar to quickly find the right one:
Just type @Bookmarks into the address bar, click “Search Bookmarks” or press tab, and type in a keyword to access it right from the search bar.
