Summary
The instructional materials you use in your course may include journal articles, news reports, textbook chapters, case studies, photographs, video, audio, and more. Many of these materials that can be sourced from the Northwestern Library. For items that students must purchase, such as textbooks, articles, case studies, you will need to work with the content provider(s) to obtain these materials and make them available to students. Materials obtained through the Northwestern library will have usage fees or copyright clearances addressed while you will be responsible for copyright compliance and educational fair use for material you obtain elsewhere. In all cases, you will be responsible for evaluating the quality and appropriateness of the materials for your course. These pages contain best practices to help you make those determinations.

- Responsible Use of Materials: Sharing copyrighted material in online courses requires special considerations. Fair Use and the TEACH Act of 2022 allow for the limited use of copyrighted materials, but place restrictions on the amount and type of material that can be shared.
