My career journey
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in History, I began to pursue work that could utilize my writing and editing skills while making a positive difference in others’ education. Before joining Northwestern, I worked at Argonne National Laboratory for five years in the Educational Programs department as their Communications and Digital Media Specialist; I greatly enjoyed supporting their education initiatives through writing and editing news stories, webpages, and more, so I’m happy that I can continue to support educational growth at Northwestern.
My inspiration
I greatly enjoyed and appreciated experiencing a diverse and impactful educational journey, especially during my undergraduate studies at Luther College. I believe that education is incredibly important for everyone, and I’m happy that I can use my writing and editing skills to support others in their own learning.
Where I’m from/Where I am at
I live at the southern end of Downers Grove, IL – close enough that the stores just south of me are in Darien.
My interests outside of work
I love to go hiking on nature trails, and I like exploring new places; I’ve gone on a number of trips with my family, and I make sure to check out local trails and sights wherever we go. I also like visiting zoos and museums. In addition, I enjoy reading books and watching anime, especially slice-of-life stories and comedies. Plus, I come from a family of bargain hunters, so I often check out garage sales and flea markets.
Rewards of my job
The most rewarding part so far has been contributing to the newsletter, as I like activities that build a sense of community in our department while also sharing our story with a wider audience. I especially appreciated the opportunity to write about my first supervisor here, Christine Scherer, who left for a new position in January 2025.
