December Staff Spotlight: Shai Mason

This month, we’re spotlighting the Distance Learning team’s administrative assistant, Shai Mason. Read on to find out more about Shai!

How long have you worked here? How did you come to higher education?

I have worked at Northwestern University for one month and I was attracted to higher education for the diversity and learning environment.

Describe a “Day in the Life.”

A day in the life for me is a cup of coffee or tea, my extensive facial routine (I’m a proud millennial), exploring the beautiful food scene here in Chicago, taking public transit more than I have ever in my life (new to the city), submitting invoices, and yapping with cool people, also known as my coworkers. Oh, and a little smidge of the clock app after work.

What’s something about your job that might surprise readers?

I work on invoices for the Distance Learning department within the School of Professional Studies – so if you take a professional development course, I am a part of the process!

What’s your favorite resource or tool that not many people know about?

Ctrl+K to link plain text to hyperlinks in OneDrive, it has become pretty handy when organizing documents in Excel.

Tell us about something you’re passionate about.

I’m passionate about wrestling, specifically Olympic Freestyle wrestling. I’ve been wrestling since I was a teenager and it’s a sport that has taught me so much and took me so many places. I actually first heard about Northwestern University by watching Sebastian Rivera at NCAA Div I Folkstyle, he was repping the Wildcats and I have since followed his career as he is now a Olympic Bronze medalist.

Shai was a member of the wrestling team at the University of Jamestown.
