This year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM) theme is “Advancing Access and Equity.” We will celebrate on Thursday, October 26 at 12 PM Central with a webinar that will highlight the importance of ensuring all people have equal opportunity to contribute their skills and talents in the online classroom.
Join James Stachowiak, Accessible Technology Strategy and Operations Lead from AccessibleNU, Northwestern IT, and SPS Distance Learning, in a discussion about SPS adult students and accessibility in and beyond the classroom.
As ANU’s Assistive Technology and Operations Lead, Jim assists students with using and troubleshooting assistive technology (AT) solutions for reading, writing, computer access, note-taking, organization, and other academic needs. He enjoys keeping up to date on the latest AT tools and figuring out how to best implement them in education settings. Prior to Northwestern, Jim was the Associate Director of the Iowa Center for Assistive Technology Education and Research (ICATER) at the University of Iowa where he taught classes on AT and worked to prepare teacher education students to work with AT in their classrooms.
Attendees will explore the 7 core skills of Canvas accessibility, take a walk-through on how to use the new Pope Tech accessible Canvas content checker tool, and learn how SPS faculty can join the Mission: Accessible Challenge!
Prior to the webinar, please review the 7 core skills of Canvas accessibility page and the Pope Tech tool guide.
