Feminist Campus Tour Directions & Accessibility

The Feminist Campus tour can be completed as one experience spanning roughly 1.7 miles and requiring just over an hour.  Visitors are encouraged, however, to access the tour in whatever increments of time or space are comfortable and feasible.
The link or QR codes can be used to access whatever point on the tour you are placed at. In some instance you may need to move closer to the spot for the audio to begin.

Tour takers must download the Echoes app from appstore or google play to listen to the audio.

Some of the audio is archival. Headphones or earpods are suggested for highest sound quality.

PDF files are available should you need or prefer to have written versions of the audio content. You can pick up an already printed packet at the Women’s Center.

At the conclusion of each stop, Sarah will provide you with directions to the next should you chose to continue. These directions may also be found below.

The path is narrated using cardinal directions. If you are facing the front of the Women’s Center with Sheridan road and the lake to your right and the rest of Evanston to your left, you are facing North.
There are no stairs on the suggested path.
Tour takers familiar with campus may chose shorter routes with steps.
A printable PDF of the tour audio will be available fall of 2021.
Please adhere to traffic signals and signage posted for your safety throughout the tour.

2000 Sheridan / The Women’s Center

Audio for the Women’s Center plays both within and outside the building. Access to the building is available through the front stairs on Foster Avenue or the ramp on the west side of the building. There is a small picnic table on the east lawn.

Deering Library & Meadow

Head east from the Women’s Center to cross Sheridan Road at Foster. Please cross only with the walk signal. Continue east under the awning of the Kellogg building and turn right or South in front of Deering Library, the large, ivy-covered structure with the field out front. Deering audio will play on the front steps, front walkway and portions of the meadow. It will not play inside the building.
There are no benches but some ledges one can sit on.

Gender and Sexuality Resource Center at Norris University Center

Continue South past the front of Deering Library and turn left, or East, keeping the library to your left and the sculpture garden on your right. Follow the wavy path around the library toward Norris University Center.
Access to Norris requires veering left up a relatively steep ramp. The audio for the GSRC will play both outside and inside the building on any level. To visit the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, enter through the front doors of Norris and precede up the steps or utilize the chair lift to the left of the steps. Take your first right to access the elevator bank. Take the elevator to the third floor, exit to your left, or North, travel past the restrooms and turn right or east at the corridor where you can see the GSRC. There are couches and chairs in a common area to the east of these rooms. Food and drink are available for purchase on the Ground level.

619 Clarke / Bursar’s Office

Exit Norris on the west, following the ramp down to the path that cuts between the library and sculpture garden. Veer left or South to keep Annie May Swift Hall on your right. As you cross this part of campus, you will travel past two upcoming tour spots, Kresge Hall, home to Gender and Sexuality Studies, and the Rock. There are two benches near Annie May Swift Hall, to the West and South of the building. As you pass the rock, veer south or left toward the arch at the intersection of Sheridan and Chicago. Cross Sheridan at the northernmost crosswalk with the walk signal. Once across, head South down Chicago Avenue. Turn right or east onto Clarke.

There are no places to sit at the Bursar’s Office. Audio does not play inside the building.

630 Emerson / Women’s Residential College

Head east on Clarke toward Chicago Avenue. Turn left and proceed north on Chicago. Turn left into the quad opposite the three way intersection of Sheridan and Chicago, on the pathway just north of the map of campus and just south of Scott Hall. Take your first right or north turn after Scott Hall and before 619 Emerson. Take the next left or west path. Turn right into the final path of the first square of living quarters to arrive in the northwest corner and the door to the Women’s Residential College. Benches and chairs are available but only accessible by going up two steps. The audio will play on the upper and lower levels of the courtyard.

If you wish to return to The Women’s Center, return to Sheridan the way you came and head north. Cross Foster with the light and the Women’s Center will be on your left.
