Turbulence
We developed simple models that reproduce some of the complex flow patterns of turbulence flows. We showed that an excess of vorticity in the boundary layer results in the entrainment of irrotational fluid into the boundary layer: the entrainment predicted by our model has the same turbulent statistics as observed in real flows and has the same pattern of vorticity. A limitation of this model is that we have to introduce the excess vorticity into the flow. We are currently working on formulations in which the vorticity redistributes itself, as is found in real turbulent boundary layers.
