Current Projects

  • In the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern, we have launched a new M.S. program in Technology, People, and Policy, part of a new Center on Technology, Policy, and Opportunity, supported by the Kapor Foundation.
  • I’m advising the Spencer Foundation on their AI Initiative
  • In the TREE Lab, we investigate the social and ethical impacts of technology alongside youth, teachers, and community members in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois.  The TREE Lab was developed through funding from an NSF CAREER award and has also been supported by the Kapor Foundation.
  • In Co-designing STEM Education with Communities: Centering History, Heterogeneity, Power, and Place, we are partnering with Black families and community-based organizations and the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 to co-design thriving and equitable STEM ecosystems in Evanston, Illinois. This project is funded by a National Science Foundation Racial Equity grant.
  • In a Spencer-funded project, we have studied the political and pedagogical history of the Sharif University of Technology in Iran. Our book, Revolutionary Engineers: Learning, activism, and politics at AMUT (1966-1979) is forthcoming with MIT Press, Spring 2025, and co-authored by postdoctoral fellows Drs. Mahdi Ganjavi and Mina Khanlarzadeh.
