In the News
Software updates are beneficial but are often viewed as an inconvenience to consumers. In Microsoft’s Windows 10 May 2019 Update puts you back in control of updates, Tom Warren at The Verge discusses a change in the way Microsoft software is updated. Warren explains that after customer complaints, Microsoft is allowing its users to choose when to install the most recent software update on their devices instead of automatically forcing the update to be installed.
Our Take
Software updates are a crucial way to ensure that your electronic devices are running most securely and effectively possible. Although it can feel like a nuisance to continually be bombarded with notifications for updates or to be interrupted by an automatic update, these updates are designed to make your online experience better. Not all software and app updates do so automatically like Microsoft’s. However, it would help if you tried to update these systems as soon as they are available. It may seem as though these updates are not necessary, but in reality, they typically contain patches and fixes to security vulnerabilities. Even though Microsoft is marketing towards their consumer base in their latest update move, updating your devices and software as soon as possible is the best bet to stay safe and secure online.
