In the News
The cybersecurity industry is struggling to keep up with security threats. In Over 80% of Firms Suffer Security Skills Shortages, Phil Muncaster reports on the skill gap reality in the cybersecurity industry and the general lack of necessary professionals to keep up with changing technology and increasing security threats. Muncaster details that 85% of respondents in a recent poll of IT professionals claimed that their IT departments are understaffed and an even larger percent claim to have difficulty filling the important open positions.
Our Take
Cybersecurity threats continue to increase in not just frequency, but also sophistication. This means that more individuals than ever are potentially at risk for data exposure and ID theft. In light of this increase, there are more open opportunities in the cybersecurity industry than ever before, yet there are not enough professionals to fill these spaces. Besides being a prime industry for college students to look into for careers after graduation, these openings partially explain the semi-crisis of data exposure and breaches in today’s society. Companies cannot adequately protect the data and privacy of their users if their departments are understaffed. Knowing this, it is crucial that individuals do all that they can to protect their information instead of relying solely on companies to safeguard copious amounts of your data.
