Companies continue taking initiatives to provide awareness on data use and data-storage policies. In Google is making it easier to wipe out your search history, Tom Warren at The Verge discusses how Google is updating its privacy controls to make it easier for its users to delete their recent browsing history. Warren explains that Google is trying to increase the emphasis on user data privacy with such initiatives and by providing manageable steps for users to turn off personalized ads and other potentially invasive online practices.
Our Take
Data privacy is a hot topic in the world and for good reason. Many individuals have lost trust in companies for instances of data misuse and dishonesty. However, many companies have shown desire to improve their client relationships and revamp their data policies to value the consumer to a greater degree. Google has shown that they are trying to do just that. Every individual has such an extensive browser history that having the option to delete recent history more easily is an enticing option to have even if one does not end up using it. The key with many recent policy updates and new privacy features is giving the user more options to control and understand their own data and data use. It is then our job as consumers to manage our data with the information and resources we are provided.
