Video Recording on Skype

In the News

Recording a call on Skype has finally gotten easier. In Skype finally adds call recording from TechCrunchDevin Coldewey discusses Skype’s new and highly anticipated video recording feature. Coldewey explains that if one turns on call recording (with the video component of the call), a small banner will appear on the screens of anyone else on that given call, but Skype also urges its users to explicitly state that you are recording a call-in order to ensure consent. Skype will then store the recorded call for up to 30 days for any member of the recorded call to obtain.

Our Take

In certain cases, being able to record a video call is crucial for a business deal, knowing details of a conversation, or keeping people accountable for what they said. Skype’s new feature makes this process much easier for a user and discloses when a call is being recorded clearly. Despite the ease and convenience of call recording, not everything discussed over a call should be recorded. Personal matters, information about other people, gossip, profanity, and other inappropriate behavior discussed over a video call can come back to haunt you if it is recorded and shared with others.
