Deleting Unopened Snapchats

In the News

In the age of social media, all features protecting user information are valuable. In Snapchat now lets you delete unopened sent messages, Dani Deahl discusses a new feature on Snapchat that will allow users to delete sent messages and Snaps as long as the receiver has not opened them yet. Deahl states that the receiver will know that a message/Snap has been deleted, but will be unable to view its content.

Our Take

Whether it’s an ugly photo or a text to the wrong person, we have all sent a message we immediately wished could be deleted. Snapchat’s new feature allowing the option of deleting a Snap/message as long as it has yet to be opened is a great safety net for many Snapchat users. Although the intended receiver of the Snap/message will see that something was sent to them and deleted, the feature still protects the personal information of the sender and ensures that such information does not fall into the hands of the wrong individual(s).
