Our lab investigates the biomechanics and energetics of human locomotion, with a special emphasis on individuals with neuromuscular impairments. We aim to understand how movement is controlled and optimized, and how assistive technologies—such as prosthetics, orthotics, and exoskeletons—can enhance mobility and reduce metabolic cost. Our work bridges engineering, biomechanics, and rehabilitation science to improve quality of life through better movement.
We are based at Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center in Chicago, Illinois within the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Our lab is part of the Feinberg School of Medicine and collaborates closely with the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in downtown Chicago.
We are frequently looking for individuals—both with and without mobility impairments—to participate in our studies. If you’re interested, please contact us via email to learn more about current studies, eligibility criteria, and how to sign up. All studies are approved by Northwestern’s Institutional Review Board, and participants are compensated for their time.
Yes! We welcome inquiries from undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and professionals interested in biomechanics, rehabilitation, or human movement science. Opportunities vary throughout the year, so we encourage you to check our People page or contact us directly with your CV and a brief statement of interest.
