Research paper figures among the top cited since 2015 in the journal Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment

The co-authored article entitled “Numerical modelling of energy piles in saturated sand subjected to thermo-mechanical loads” by Alessandro F. Rotta Loria, Anthony Gunawan, Chao Shi, Lyesse Laloui, and Charles W.W. Ng figures as one of the three ‘Most Cited Paper of 2015-2019’ on the international journal Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment. The paper presents a fundamental investigation focusing on energy piles: innovative geotechnical technologies that provide structural support and renewable energy supply to buildings and infrastructures. Through a series of numerical simulations that are validated with experimental evidence, the research particularly develops of knowledge on the geotechnical and structural behavior of such technologies, which are subjected to the unprecedented combination of thermal and mechanical loads due to their combined structural support and energy supply role.
